Ai Cheng Foo-Nielsen

Early in her career she started working for leading accountancy and legal firms in Asia dealing with incorporations, liquidations, and corporate secretarial matters as a chartered company secretary and legal corporate executive. In 2001, she switched career joining BIMCO when she moved to Denmark after obtaining a Bachelor of Law degree at Leicester University in UK as well as finishing her Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers’ Foundation diploma. She now works as a regulatory manager in the regulatory department dealing with maritime safety, security and environmental matters.

As part of the team, she is currently in charge of assisting members with compliance of international cargo regula tions to ensure the safety of the ship and crew when transporting these cargoes. In this connection to these matters, she actively follows:

•The IMO Sub-committee on the Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC) as well as the editorial and technical groups focusing on two specialised codes for the shipment of dry cargoes; the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code.

• She is responsible for the BIMCO Cargo section for dry cargoes on the BIMCO website, including the maintenance and continuous update of the BIMCO Solid Cargo Databases, which are widely used by members for the IMSBC Code’s compliance for carriage requirements of solid bulk cargoes.

•Apart from cargo work, she is also responsible for matters relating to crew support like the Maritime Labour Convention, phytosanitary restrictions and also ice information and guidance.
